Engineering Maintenance Technician (Dual Discipline) Standard Information

To move into the Assessment stage, the apprentice must have:
Completed a minimum of 48 months on-programme training.
Achieved Level 2 English and Mathematics.
Completed a Portfolio of Evidence – This underpins the interview and must demonstrate how the apprentice has met the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the standard.

Observation with questions.
Interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
Multiple-choice test.

This is a core and options apprenticeship. An apprentice must be trained and assessed against the core and one option. The options are:
Electrical engineering maintenance technician.
Control and instrumentation engineering maintenance technician.
Mechanical engineering maintenance technician.

Duration: 5 hours (+10% tolerance if needed).
Environment: Real work setting or simulated environment approved by the EPAO.
Assessed by: Independent End-Point Assessor (IEPA).
Questions: The assessor will ask at least 6 questions during or after the observation.

The apprentice will be given 2 weeks' notice of the interview.
Typically lasts 90 minutes.
The technical expert will ask 10 questions from an agreed set of questions developed by NAS.

50 multiple choice questions.
75 minute electronic or paper-based question paper.
Questions have four options including one correct answer.

Begin KSB development.
Start building your Reflective Portfolio.
Start of Apprenticeship
Resit = No new learning. Timeframe typically 2 months.
Retake = Extra learning. Timeframe typically 4 months.
Resits / Retakes (if needed)

Complete the required amount of off-the-job training.
Compile a portfolio of evidence.
Achieve Level 2 Functional Skills in English & Maths (if required).
Results & Certification
Pass any components = Pass.
Merit = Distinction in Observation and Pass in other components.
Distinction = Distinction in Observation and Interview, Pass in MCQ.
Certificate awarded.
Fail = Fail in any component.
