What is a Network Cable Installer?

Digital Network Cable Installers play a critical role in ensuring reliable and efficient network infrastructure through the installation and maintenance of cabling systems. This apprenticeship develops apprentices’ ability to support secure data transfer, seamless connectivity, effective troubleshooting, and preventative measures that help minimise downtime and maintain business productivity.

Network Cable Installer Standard Information

  • To go through gateway, the following criteria have to be met:

    • The apprentice has achieved English and mathematics at level 2.

    • The apprentice has completed a portfolio demonstrating all of the required knowledge, skills and behaviour of the apprenticeship.

  • The assessment approach for this standard has two methods:

    • Practical Demonstration and Questions.

    • Professional Discussion.

    • 75 minutes (+10%).

    • Minimum of 20 questions.

    • Portfolio may be referred to.

    • A minimum of 5 questions.

    • Total of 7 hrs (+10%) to complete 2 tasks:

      1. Install, terminate and test copper cable.

      2. Install, terminate and test fibre optic cable.

Apprentice Journey

  • Enrol on programme.

  • Start building your Reflective Portfolio.

  • Get hands-on with real network cabling tasks.

Start of Apprenticeship

  • Retake = Extra learning.

Resits / Retakes (if needed)

18 months

  • Learn copper & fibre installation.

  • Build portfolio with mapped work evidence.

  • Train and develop KSBs.

  • Complete English & Maths, if needed.

  • Portfolio finalised.

  • Employer & training provider confirm you're ready for assessment.

  • Portfolio submitted 14+ days before assessment.

  • Assessment window begins.
