Radio Network Technicians are responsible for configuring and managing radio networks used for communication and data transfer. This apprenticeship develops apprentices’ skills in installation, testing, optimisation, fault diagnosis, and network design, supporting organisations to maintain secure, reliable systems and minimise disruption.

Radio Network Technician Standard Information

  • To go through gateway, the following criteria have to be met:

    • The apprentice has achieved English and mathematics at level 2.

  • The assessment approach for this standard has three methods:

    • Practical Assessment with questioning.

    • Knowledge Test.

    • Professional Discussion.

    • 60 minutes (+10%).

    • Minimum of 7 questions.

    • 20 MCQ’s.

    • 60 minutes.

    • Closed book.

    • Total of 5 hrs 30 minutes (+10%).

    • Minimum of 10 questions throughout the assessment based on observation of tasks.

    • 3 practical tasks that must show:

      • Plan a digital data and voice network.

      • Build a digital data and voice network.

      • Fault find a digital data and voice network.

Apprentice Journey

  • Enrol on programme.

  • Start building your Reflective Portfolio.

  • Functional Skills support begins (if needed).

Start of Apprenticeship


  • Core skills: digital systems, tech support, data, IT tools.

  • Experience in user support, asset management, process improvement.

  • Ongoing reviews and feedback.

  • Portfolio built for EPA.
